Lisa McCune

Biography

Last updated June 17, 2005

Lisa McCune was born on February 19, 1970 and grew up in Perth, Western Australia. She has a brother named Brett.

At only 16 years old, Lisa was accepted into the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) to study for a musical degree, graduating at age 19.

Lisa appeared in a number of commercials for Coles Supermarkets as a checkout chick before filming three pilots for Channel Seven – one of which was “Blue Heelers.”

Though she originally auditioned for the role of Ros Patterson on “Blue Heelers,” Lisa won the role of Constable Maggie Doyle, a role which she played for six years. She won ten TV Week Logie Awards for the role of Maggie, five of which that were silver Logies for Most Popular Actress, and four Gold (awarded to the viewer-voted Most Popular Personality on Australian Television) – equalling Ray Martin’s record of four consecutive Gold Logies, and being the first female to do so.

During her time on “Heelers,” Lisa also appeared in a number of theatre shows, the most notable being “The Sound Of Music.” In early 2000, Maggie Doyle was murdered in a huge storyline to farewell the “Heelers” favourite.

Lisa later went back to work in 2002, in the new Channel Seven legal series “Marshall Law,” which was axed after just one season. Lisa then starred in the stage version of “Cabaret,” winning a Green Room Award for Actress in a Leading Role. In October 2003, Lisa and Tim welcomed their second son, Oliver, into the world. She also filmed more commercials for Coles, in 2003 and 2004 but instead of being the checkout chick, she was the customer.

In 2004, Lisa not only starred in yet another musical, but got herself two hosting gigs with the Seven Network – the first being top-and-tailing for a repackaged “The World Around Us,” retitled “Lisa McCune’s The World Around Us” and then “The World Around Us with Lisa McCune.” The second was hosting and narrating the documentary series “Forensic Investigators,” for which the producers were allowed to use police footage, a rare opportunity.

In her personal life, Lisa married Tim Disney on February 18, 2000. The couple have two young sons, Archer and Oliver, and are expecting another child. Lisa is also a strong supporter of the Heart Foundation, having seen her mother with a heart condition that eventually required open-heart surgery, which she survived.

In the second half of 2004, Lisa filmed the telemovie “Hell has harbour views” for the ABC, which screened in 2005. Lisa is also set to appear in the revamped "MDA" in 2005.

In June 2005, Lisa and Tim welcomed their third child, a girl, into the world.
