Bridie Carter was born on December 18, 1970 and grew up in Melbourne, in and around art galleries. She has two brothers named Barney and Darcy.

Bridie graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in the early 1990s and moved on to a small role in Kangaroo Palace, a guest spot in All Saints, and the flopped Channel Ten drama Above the Law, before scoring the part of Tess in McLeod’s Daughters.

Bridie told producers at her audition for McLeod’s that she could ride horses, but later found that the small amount of experience she had gained as a child was near useless. Luckily, the producers gave her the role anyway. She quickly learned to ride and it is now one of her favourite parts of the job.

For her role in McLeod’s, Bridie has been nominated for a number of TV Week Logie Awards, including Most Popular Actress and Most Outstanding Actress. The latter is voted for by industry experts, so a nomination is an achievement in itself.

In her personal life, Bridie married clothing designer Michael Wilson in early 2004. The couple now reside in Byron Bay and welcomed their first child, a boy named Otis, into the world in early 2005.
